Greenbank Hall in Chester is a magnificent grade II listed manor house. Built in 1820 for John Swarbreck Rogers, a local glove manufacturer and mayor of Chester, it was once described by the architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner as one of the best Georgian houses in Chester and is recorded in the National Heritage list for England.
This beautiful manor house has now been sympathetically refurbished to provide 7 mansion apartments. Hodkin & Jones were commissioned to restore the original existing ceiling mouldings that had been extensively damaged.
Our craftsmen visited site for an initial survey of the plaster ceiling mouldings, and to take bespoke squeezes of the existing moulds. After this, the specialist plaster moulding team collected the existing damaged mouldings, and returned to the workshop to begin the process of recreating and piecing back the ceiling to its original beauty.
Once all the mouldings were manufactured, we returned to site to recreate a curved background in lime plaster and then to install the mouldings, producing the beautiful ceiling as illustrated.
